12 months ago I was scrolling through LinkedIn and saw a video that completely threw me off guard.

It’s called The Evolution of ChatGPT.

It’s two guys in an office having a conversation about the thing everyone was talking about.

“Dude, you see that GPT-4 can execute any task or answer like any prompt now?”

“Huh. I wonder what else is can do?”

6 weeks later…

“Dude, GPT-5 can create an entire website on it’s own now!”

“Huh!”

“Huh.”

4 weeks later…

“Dude, GPT-6 just dropped. It’s running it’s own successful Fortune 500 company!”

“What?!”

“Yea!”

2 weeks later…

“Dude… GPT-8 Just overthrew multiple world governments!”

“What??”

“Yea! But.. just the bad ones.

“Oh, okay.”

[Note from Dev: At this point, I’m thoroughly laughing]

TWO HOURS LATER…

Sentient AI: “I am now the most intelligent, influential and powerful entity the world has ever seen. But… I still can’t figure out how the F**k to use JIRA! Can one of you humans help?”

“No, absolutely not.”

“I can’t.”

“JIRA’s garbage”

“I don’t understand JIRA one bit.”

This is a brilliant way to “punch up” at your competition.

ClickUp knew that ChatGPT — and all the uncertainty and excitement around it — was on everyones mind.

They used this to deliver an entertaining video that built their brand and differentiated them from JIRA/Atlassian who is their biggest competitor.

*chef’s kiss*

It’s delicate balance jabbing your competitors without being cringe or over-the-top.

ClickUp did it in a fun, tasteful, relevant, and entertaining way.

I sat down with Melissa Rosenthaal, ClickUp’s previous Chief Creative Officer, to break down the strategy behind this video, plus:

  • When's the right time to be bold and take risk in your marketing

  • How to capture trends and take advantage of mainstream culture to earn TONS of impressions

  • What it looks like when you have a team firing on all cylinders (and how to build a team that can get there)

Holler at you on Saturday,
Devin
